The Danube Rectors' Conference that took place from 21 to 23 September 2006 in Maribor was a great honour and obligation for the University of Maribor at the same time, when it organised this
conference for the second time in six years. The University of Maribor is an active member of the Danube Rectors' Conference, and it was in 2000, when it presided the conference for the last
time.
The original mission of the Danube Rectors' Conference that was established in 1983 in the Austrian town Krems, is to connect the universities of countries, where the Danube is running through.
This role quickly spread and today this conference is the second largest association of universities in Europe with almost 60 members from 13 countries of Central and Southeast Europe. The
University of Maribor is organising the annual conference and assembly in line with the tradition and at the assembly rector Prof. Dr. Ivan Rozman was elected president of this conference. This
year's conference was visited by more than 115 rectors, vice-rectors and other representatives of universities from the countries of the mentioned space.
